A very serious issue of unemployment in the IT industry has been prevailing in India and it is definitely a growing concern for the country. Recruitment outsourcing gurus have rightly pointed out the hugely existing skill gap across most industries. Research says that the primary reason for this is the unstable and inconsistent education process that is prevalent in many colleges. Thus an imbalance is created between what is being taught to students in institutions and what is expected of them for filling in job positions that require sufficient skill and professionalism. Every year our country produces millions of engineers and graduates but when it comes to joining a skilled and professional workforce, many fall short of the required talent as they lack hands-on or practical expertise and knowledge. To cut down on this shortfall in skilled labour, young students and graduates are encouraged to enrol in skill-based education and hands-on training.
HCL’s Program to Promote IT Careers in your own hometown
To provide a boost to the employment level and opportunities for fresh graduates and engineers to enhance their skills, HCL has started a new division called HCL’s Training and Hiring program. It aims to train and provide assured jobs to these young people to try and bridge the gap between the required talent and the vacant job positions. This program has commenced in Lucknow and Madurai. This specially designed course spans 6 months. HCL, being an enormous IT giant, requires new talented individuals continuously. There is high demand for candidates who are suited to join its professional workforce and have the capability of adding value to the company. This program is quite an innovative strategy by HCL to create and sustain a pool of skilled individuals within the company. The program provides requisite training and imparts expertise to these candidates which enables them to improve their technical and professional skills. The program is focused on training and deploying the available local talent and honing their skills to prepare them for competitive global careers in IT.
The selection is a simple 3 way procedure. A counselling session is first held for the applied candidates. It is then followed by either a technical or an aptitude online test. The final step of the process is an interview, passing which the candidates are absorbed into the 6 month program. During the first 3 months the candidates are given classroom training. The program concludes with 3 months of practical tests.
